Vocal Specialist, B.Mus. Capilano University
Karen White started playing piano at age 4 and has been performing as a vocalist in either choirs, musical theatre productions or as a soloist since she was 8. She holds a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in Jazz Voice from Capilano University where she studied performance, composition and arranging. It was there that she discovered her love for choir and vocal harmony while performing in the school’s prestigious ensembles NiteCap, directed by Rejean Marois and Narwhal, directed by Jared Burrows.
Karen now performs regularly as a jazz and contemporary vocalist in various projects in the Vancouver area. She is the lead vocalist and songwriter in her blues/neo-soul band SoulFood, and a member of the indie folk-rock band Fake Cascade in which she creates and performs background vocals and vocal harmony.
Karen has been teaching for the last 5 years in a wide variety of styles to a diverse group of people from all ages and experience levels. She loves to share her knowledge and experience with students looking to expand their musical abilities, and works to foster a safe and creative environment for students to explore their passion for music
